June 2012 Practice Newsletter

Bye Bye
It’s my final week at Rosehill before I leave to go and work in Hong Kong so Julie has asked me to write you a little farewell.I was hoping to impress you with some Cantonese but unfortunately failed at the first hurdle when I discovered the Cantonese for “goodbye” is simply “bye bye.”

I have been at the practice for    4 ½ years (so you can stop asking me if I’m new now!) and have met lots of lovely people and had lots of interesting experiences along the way (e.g. the charity powerfan jump in 2009).

The girls did a great job of training me up as a nurse when I arrived, before kindly leaving me to hold the fort while they went off and had babies…4 in total during my time here.

We’ve had lots of laughs, mainly at Sarah C’s expense, it’s a shame I won’t meet any blonde Chinese workmates over in HK!

I have seen more blood and pus than I care to remember and heard enough corny dental jokes to last me a lifetime. Goodness knows how Margaret managed 60 years in dentistry without losing her marbles!

So, now it’s time to hang up my aspirator for the final time and start my new adventure in China.  I hope teaching English to Chinese children is an easier task than managing Julie before her first cup of tea in the morning!
I will keep you posted on how I get on….

 Mh goi (thankyou)

Jodie 🙂

Doubts about ‘Healthy’ McDonalds Kids Drink
McDonalds say the new drink called ‘Fruitfizz’ will count as one of a child’s 5 fruit or vegetable portion a day. However tests have shown a 500ml serving contains 200 calories and 49g of sugar- that’s over 75% of a childs daily allowance in one drinks!

Of course we worry about the effect this could have on teeth but concerns have also been expressed by the National Obesity Forum and the British Diabetic Association.

So next time you are buying that happy meal just be aware of the facts and make an informed decision.
